Rainwater to Toilet
Santa Rosa, California | Design Technician
Context: After losing their home in the 2019 Sonoma County fires, homeowners embarked on a journey to rebuild, prioritizing a deeper connection with water and its use. The neighborhood, historically reliant on a stressed well system, sought innovative solutions for water resilience.
Task: The goal was to navigate the permitting process and inform the county of pathways to increase adoption of rainwater harvesting systems in rebuild projects within the neighborhood.
Approach: The project utilized unutilized space for storage, integrating a rainwater harvesting system to supply toilet flushing. Close collaboration with the architect and contractor from design to installation ensured a seamless process, setting a precedent for water-wise rebuilds in the community.
