Regenerative Cacao
Jayaque, El Salvador | Project Manager
Context: This organic farm breaks the mold of monoculture, embracing biodiversity, soil health, and carbon sequestration. The result is cacao with complex flavor profiles and higher nutritional content, thriving amidst a resurgence of local wildlife.
Task: The goal was to analyze site constraints and opportunities to boost stormwater infiltration and implement on-site compost waste management, enhancing soil fertility and overall ecosystem health.
Approach: Moving beyond sustainability, the focus shifted to healing the land. Mulch infiltration trenches were created on contour to capture runoff on 15-20% slopes, enhancing ecosystem resilience. This approach provides multiple benefits for the farming family, including new irrigation water sources and improved slope stability.
